Traffic Citation Law - Houston Texas Lawyer

If you own a Texas driver’s license, chances are you encountered a police officer who has pulled you over, then sent you on your way with a traffic citation. Unfortunately, many people make this situation worse by arguing with police officers, failing to pay the citation, or even ignoring the entire incident altogether.
Failure to take care of a simple speeding ticket in Houston or Galveston Texas may lead to an arrest, jail time and severe fines which could drastically increase your auto insurance.

Texas has developed a program aimed specifically at punishing drivers who have received more than one traffic ticket. That is why it is important that you contact Attorney Tad Nelson to see if it’s possible to get your ticket dismissed rather than face the compounding fines that can accompany multiple tickets.

Known as the Texas Driver Responsibility Program, Texas drivers are penalized when ticketed for speeding, driving without a valid license or breaking certain other traffic laws. Drivers receive two points on their driver license for a moving violation and three points if the moving violation causes a traffic collision. If you receive six or more points during a three-year period, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will bill you $100 for the first six points and $25 for each additional point. These points remain on your record for three years. Certain offenses, including DWI convictions, result in additional surcharges you have to pay each year for three years.

Traffic Law Attorney Tad Nelson works with the prosecuting authority to get you a deferred adjudication or a dismissal. A deferred disposition or adjudication is a way of having your citation dismissed. In order to have your ticket dismissed, you must complete a probationary period in which no additional convictions are received and satisfy all requirements imposed in the deferral. With either dismissal or a deferred sentence, you will not have the ticket reflected on your driving record.

If Attorney Nelson takes your case to trial, you may have to wait up to six months for the court to schedule your court date. While taking time off work for a court date and spending extra money to fight a traffic ticket may seem troublesome, a clean driving record is worth the effort. Traffic violations result in increased insurance rates, excessive fines and even license suspension for multiple tickets. Contact the Attorney Tad Nelson at Nelson & Associates if you have received a traffic ticket for speeding or other moving violations and need help to defend your driving record.
